What is a Brewpub?

For us, a "brewpub" is a restaurant which makes its own beer. Beer is a "food" beverage, as is wine. Some folks like to think of a "brewpub" as a brewery that serves food. Different emphasis, different places.

Does the "Bar" make alot of noise?

We are not a bar. We are first and foremost a restaurant that makes it own beer. With inn rooms above the restaurant we are concerned about noise and so take our last orders at 8:00 or 8:30 (on weekends) and are completely closed and locked up by 9:30 or 10:00. When we are open, you can hear some noises from below, but few people have found it objectionable.

What is there to do in Mineral Point?

It sort of depends on what you'd like to do and what time of the year you are coming. Check out some of the information in other places on our web site as well as visiting the Mineral Point Web site. Mineral Point itself is charming, with numerous small artisan galleries and other interesting shops. There are also the historic sites of Pendarvis, Orchard Lawn and the Railway Depot. Plus there are the attractions in surrounding areas, including Frank Lloyd Wright's Taliesen and the American Players Theater in Spring Green, House on the Rock and Governor Dodge State Park just north of us and Little Norway and Cave of the Mounds only slightly further a field. Galena is less than an hour away as are Madison and Dubuque. If you like energetic biking, our county roads can't be beat. Or if you just like to look at bucolic country scenery drive some of our back roads. Of course Brewery Creek itself offers lots to do, including eating good food, drinking good beer and relaxing in your room.

Where did you get that Bar?

“Where did you get that bar?” is perhaps the question we hear most frequently. The answer? We got it from an antique dealer in Minneapolis after a search for an old bar that would fit into this space. It is less than 9' tall so it fits under the ceiling beam. It also looks good, so it’s back doing what it was originally intended to do! We hope you enjoy it. (When we get bored we make up stories of where it came from.... "It came over on the Titanic"... "I have a whole barn full of them"... "It was just left on the curb after one City Wide Garage Sale"... "From China, they're inflatable with a regular bicycle pump".... you get the idea)

hr

Are you open all year?

Yes and yes! The restaurant has seasonal hours. November through May it is open Thursday, Friday and Saturday (excluding holiday periods). Our lodging facilitiesa are open seven days a week all year long with some restrictions around holidays.

What is Figgie Hobbin?

Its a kind of Cornish pastry dessert. In Cornwall raisins and currants were often referred to as figs, hence "figgy" in the name. You might remember in the Christmas song "We Wish You a Merry Christmas" there is something about "figgy pudding". Same thing. Basically, make a pastry crust with LARD and SUET, mix in raisins, roll it out to about 1/2 inch thick, roll that into a tube and bake. They usually put some kind of sauce on it. We make it once in a while. Check on line or in a cook book for more details.

What About WiFi?

We have WiFi that reaches most of the building (and parking lot next to the building). Nearly all guests have no problem accessing the net. We have friends who sit out in the parking lot once in a while to access the net. That said, once in a while someone can't get on-line. I'm no computer expert so all I can say is it must be something in your settings. I'll take a look but.....

What is a Bed and Breakfast?

In Wisconsin, a business must have originally been built as a home to be a "bed and breakfast". For that reason, the residential building codes apply. Since Brewery Creek was built as a warehouse in 1854 we can not be a "bed and breakfast". The entire renovation was done according to the commercial building code for hotels, with some moderation based on the Historic Codes. To more accurately describe what we are, we call ourselves a "bed and breakfast Inn".

What do you serve for breakfast?

In addition to coffee and tea which are available very early, we serve what in the industry is called a "Continental Plus" breakfast. This includes fruit, juices, pastries (from Denmark!) sometimes alternating with muffins and scones, sourdough bread for toast, breakfast cereal, hard boiled eggs and youghurt. Sometimes we put out "extra inventory" of desserts from the restaurant. If guests have there hearts set on a pile of flapjacks with sausage and an omlete... there are several local cafes ready to provide.
