Mineral Point Market

May 3, 2008 to October 18, 2008
8:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
AKA "The Farmers' Market" is held every Saturday morning at Water Tower Park from early May to the end of October. Produce, plants, meat, and lots more, starting slow and building as the season progresses. Everything is locally produced. A lot more than just a bunch of fruit and veg, its almost a social event. Just look for the water tower.

THE WEATHER

May 6, 2008 to December 31, 2008

Someone told me today, 5/1/08, that they have picked the first Morels of the season. That would be the small grayish Morchella deliciosa. As it warms up we'll start to see the M. esculenta and crassipes. The rains have been cleaning the sand and gravel off the roads. Plenty of water but no flooding in the area. Spring flowers are blooming along the roads, in gardens and woods. The road biking season is underway. The willows are covered in new yellow green leaves and every day the ground, green, green. Warblers are passing through, turkeys have been active and everything that can sing is.

Some neighbors saw a Bald Eagle recycling road kill, several others insist there is a wolf hanging around about five miles East of town. Fifteen minutes to the North is Governor Dodge State Park. Maybe a bit muddy on he trails, but no flooding around here. You can still hike the many trails. The park has something in every season.
